Problem:
I Can’t See Other Computers On My Network
Solution:
If you can’t see other computers on your network using Windows Vista or Windows 7 (usually the computers outside your workgroup) follow these steps:
1. Open network and sharing center (Start>Control Panel>Network and Internet>Network and Sharing Center) – Check that the network you’re connecting to is set to Private (instead of Public).
2. Under Sharing and Discovery, turn on network discovery, file sharing and printer sharing
3. Click Windows Firewall (Bottom left)
4. Click Allow a program through Windows Firewall
5. There must be a check mark on Network Discovery to allow it through the firewall
*Make sure “Password Protected sharing” is OFF
6. Next, click the Start Button, run: services.msc
Find the following services and make sure they are started:
DNS Client
Function Discovery Resource Publication
SSDP Discovery
UPnP Device Host services
7. Finally, click the Start button
a. Right click on NetworkClick Properties
b. Click Manage network connections
c. Right click on the active connection
d. Click Properties
e. Click on TCP/ IPv4 Properties
f. Click the Advanced Button
g. Click the Wins Tab
h. Click Enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP
Browse your network!
